I haven't seen the Dalton Trumbo movie yet so I can't really comment on it at least in a credible sense and I'm not going to take the word of J.T. Hayworth and Allan Ryskind on it as well. Who both come from a very heavy right-wing partisan slant on it to say the least. Whatever you think of Dalton Trumbo's politics and I'm not a Socialist, democratic or otherwise, we're still talking about his politics here. The only reason why he was brought up in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947 was because of his politics.

The so-called Red Scare at the start of the Cold War that drove a lot of Americans crazy in believing that communism was so dangerous that a great liberal democracy like America, which is the opposite of communism, couldn't survive in the same world as communism. That it wasn't just communist policies and communist states that had to be defeated and destroyed, but communist beliefs as well. That you needed a fascist state coming from the Far-Right, where everyone looked at politics and the world from the same point of view and all shared the exact same values. That is not freedom and free speech, but a form of fascism.

Dalton Trumbo, wasn't brought in front of HUAC because he was a communist agent for the Soviet Union or a spy or something like the Rosenberg's. He was brought in front of HUAC because he was  a Socialist in Hollywood and had a big mic and stage to get out his political beliefs. As much as the right-wing anti-Communist Warriors said they were defending freedom and liberty in the 1940s and 1950s, it would have been nice if only those things were true. Because instead they were defending what they claimed they were against. Which was fascism and statism.

You can say that Freedom of Speech is so important and that liberal democracy is so powerful that all views are welcomed to be expressed, because we're so strong as a country that we can tolerate extreme views from both the Far-Left and Far-Right and that Americans will be able to make up their own minds on these issues. But these things don't mean anything if you don't actually believe in them. What you do instead is say that freedom and free speech is so important that we have to stand up for the right for everyone to have their own views and be able to express them. Even if they're fringe and then hold them accountable for what they believe and say. But not try to shut them up and then we'll have true freedom and free speech.

Newsmax: The Hard Line With Ed Berliner- Telling it Like it is About American Voters

Wow! That is my far the most important and meaningful thing that I’ve ever heard from Newsmax. Other than their documentaries which are actually pretty interesting. There is not a single thing that I disagreed with on Ed Berliner there. He went right after the American voter and put the blame squarely on where it should be which is the American voter. If you don’t like corrupt politicians and candidates, don’t freakin vote for them! And that is as nice as I can be on that. If you’re not smart enough to keep up with what politicians do and what they say and to check up on their records, or you don’t think you have the time, or you don’t think that voting is awesome or whatever and just for nerds or people like that, don’t waste your time and the people’s time by voting.

American politics and American politicians can only be as good as the people that they are supposed to represent. Even corrupt candidates and politicians have to get elected to hold office or hold onto office. Which means voters hold most of the power here and get to decide who represents them. You have a smart educated voting class who do their homework and knows who is for real and who is telling them what they want to here and the good people will get elected and reelected and the crooks and phonies will have to find real jobs and have to earn those jobs. Like selling used cars, or investing in real estate, or creating so-called reality TV shows. Actually those jobs are real jobs compared with serving in Congress, running political campaigns.

The only reason why someone like a Donald Trump who is a one-man reality show called Who Wants Donald Trump to be President can even get as far as he is now before he crashes and burns like one his bankrupt companies is because we have a voting class in America who are simply looking for people to tell them what they want to hear. And don’t bother to research if what they are saying now comes anywhere close to what they’ve said in the past. The Donald Trump of 2015 ideologically is nothing like the Donald Trump of 2008.

The Donald in 2008 was actually fairly centrist and was probably even a Democrat if not Independent. Who voted for Bill Clinton and supported Planned Parenthood. But his so-called supporters probably don’t know that. Because that would require doing something other than listening to soundbites, political commercials and watching speeches. We only get better politicians and politics with better voters who do their homework and vote accordingly. And we don’t have that right now. Instead we have people who are looking for the next hot candidate who looks like there from Hollywood, or who’ll tell them what they want to hear.

The Ronald Reagan/Michael Steele wing of the Republican Party is the future of the GOP. If they are going to be a big party in power in the future. And I put Mike Steele in the Reagan wing of the GOP because President Reagan is a big hero of Chairman Steele. And he is a big tent Republican who can speak to people outside of the traditional far-right base of the GOP and can communicate a message that appeals to more Americans outside of the far-right base.

The future of the GOP will need to keep the economic Conservatives who aren’t interested in government telling them or other Americans how to live their personal lives. And bring in Americans who like conservative economic policies, but get turned off by the Religious-Right and Nationalists when they talk about such divisive cultural issues. And try to nationalize social issues, when traditionally the Republican Party has seen these issues as issues should be left up to the states to decide.

The country is moving pass the Religious-Right and the Nationalists. And we are becoming a much more tolerant and inclusionary country. Something that only the far-right who still live in the 1950s culturally do not seem to understand. Who look at Americans outside of their base as Un-American and should go back to where they came from. As the far-right get’s even smaller and dies off, so will the GOP if they do not bring in new voters.

First of all I love PJ O’Rourke, you know platonically because he’s one my favorite political and cultural commentators. And why is that because first of all his deep honesty and consistency. He’s what is called a Conservative Libertarian. Probably not a pure Libertarian, but a Barry Goldwater Conservative whose politics is built around government should mind their own business and not the business of the people. Meaning that government’s job is to defend the people’s freedom, not try to run their lives. Not one of the fake Conservatives who bash big government as they are sticking up for other parts of big government.

The exchange he had with Steve Malzberg about marijuana in this interview is a perfect example of what a conversation between a real Conservative like PJ and a fake Conservative. I’m not very familiar with Steve Malzberg enough to know if he’s a fake Conservative or not. But how they were talking about marijuana where PJ basically saying the cat is already out of the bag on this. Marijuana prohibition is a failure and besides we are only talking about a drug that has similar effects as alcohol anyway. With Steve Malzberg making the establishment drug warrior argument of why should we legalize another dangerous drug in this country. The same argument that could be made about alcohol.

I’m not a Libertarian but definitely a Liberal who takes the same viewpoint about government that PJ O’Rourke takes that it is not the job of government to run my life for me and try to protect me from myself. But protect me from people who would hurt me. By punishing them not by prohibiting what I can do with my own life. And if you are a real Conservative or a Conservative Libertarian, you have a very similar view about government as well.

I wrote a couple of posts last week why Jack Kennedy would not only be a Democrat but a loyal Democrat, a good Democrat and even a Liberal Democrat and he’s a big reason why I’m a Liberal Democrat. 

For people, especially on the partisan Right, who want to make any person in the Democratic Party, or anyone on the Left that they may claim to respect as less than democratic or liberal, they do not either understand the Democratic Party in America. Or have chosen to ignore those things to make their partisan political points.

To listen to these partisan right-wingers, you get the idea that all Democrats are on the Far-Left and we are all Socialists or Social Democrats. Or today’s Far-Left is the mainstream Democratic Party in America. 

I agree that the Far-Left in America wouldn’t have much to like about Jack Kennedy, because he was someone who believed there was a limit to how much you could tax, people including the wealthy and a limit to how much government can do for people and still have a strong economy and you needed a strong national defense whether you are dealing with the Soviet Union in his time, or private Islāmic terrorists today.

To put Jack Kennedy in modern, mainstream media political standards, you would have to say that JFK would be a Classical Liberal today. Someone who doesn't fit in with the Christian-Right, or the Tea Party, or the Neoconservatives. But he wouldn't be with the Bernie Sanders or Liz Warren's today either. People who the so--called mainstream media like to call Progressives or Liberals. 

Jack Kennedy was a big believer in economic freedom and opportunity, which put him to the left of what I at least would call the Far-Left in America. But he would've been to the Right of the Tea Party Populists, the Christian-Right, and even Libertarian-Right, on civil rights and a lot of other cultural issues. Just look at his own personal life, we're talking about a man who loved personal freedom to the point that he couldn't control his own personal life, especially his sexual life.

I endorse as a Maryland Liberal Democrat, U.S. Representative Paul Broun to win the Georgia Tea Party nomination for U.S. Senate. Because he would put that race in play for Democrats against former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn’s daughter Michelle Nunn. 

Georgia is still a very red Bible Belt state at least outside of the Atlanta metroplex. But they have been moving left as more Americans outside of Georgia have moved into Georgia. And Representative Broun is probably as far to the right as any member of Congress. (House or Senate) And would be running against Sam Nunn’s daughter Michelle Nunn, a very Centrist-Democrat who knows Georgia very well. 

This race would still favor Senate Republicans, but with Paul Broun Democrats would have a competitive shot at it.

As Representative Jim Jordan said himself and told Newsmax, the new costs to public assistance in America has to do with the economy. The Great Recession started 4 years ago, we're still at 8% unemployment right now and around 20% poverty in this country. It's not like President Obama and Congress decided to increase the budgets on public welfare and are throwing money at these problems. It's that we have more people unemployed, more people with low-income, low-skilled jobs, and as a result more people who are eligible for public assistance, than we did even 5-6 years ago, or 10-15 years ago.

I also agree with Representative Jordan on how to address these issues. We obviously need a better economy, more people not just working, but working in jobs that makes them economically independent of public assistance. 

But for people who are eligible for public assistance, especially low-skilled adults with kids on those programs, there needs to be work and educational requirements for them so they can start working, but as they are working, they are getting the skills that they need to get themselves a good job and get off of public assistance. While they don't lose their public financial assistance that they need to live, while they're working their low-income jobs and in school to get the skills that they need to get themselves a good job and be financially independent.
