The New Left in America

Source:Wikipedia- "Abbie Hoffman, leader of the countercultural protest group the Yippies." Abbie Hoffman was also one of the leaders of the New-Left antiwar movement in the 1960s.

"The New Left was a broad political movement mainly in the 1960s and 1970s consisting of activists in the Western world who campaigned for a broad range of social issues such as civil and political rights, feminism, gay rights, abortion-rights, gender roles and drug policy reforms.[1] Some see the New Left as an oppositional reaction to earlier Marxist and labor union movements for social justice that focused on dialectical materialism and social class, while others who used the term see the movement as a continuation and revitalization of traditional leftist goals.[2][3][4]

Some who self-identified as "New Left"[5] rejected involvement with the labor movement and Marxism's historical theory of class struggle,[6] although others gravitated to their own takes on established forms of Marxism, such as the New Communist movement (which drew from Maoism) in the United States or the K-Gruppen (de) in the German-speaking world. In the United States, the movement was associated with the anti-war college-campus protest movements, including the Free Speech Movement."

Pre-1965 in America the left-wing in America mostly just Center-Left that was made up FDR Progressive Democrats, who were interested in moving America forward and creating progress and wanted more Americans to able to live in freedom and not just people who were born to wealth or to Anglo-Saxon-Protestant families. But they weren't people looking to transform the American system of government and culture and try to create some completely different form of American state and government. But they were American Patriots who simply wanted to make America better, who were interested in progress.

That changed in the mid and late 1960s with the Baby Boom Generation, with this huge population on young leftists (Socialists and Communists) who weren't anti-Communists or anti-Socialists (unlike the Progressives) who if anything saw America as and impediment to world peace, justice, and morality. And created their own left-wing political movement that was way to the left of the Franklin Roosevelt 's Harry Truman's, John Kennedy's, Lyndon Johnson's, and other Progressive Democrats. This page is about American Socialists and Communists in and outside of the Democratic Party.

Hollywood Ten

"The Hollywood blacklist was the colloquial term for what was in actuality a broader entertainment industry blacklist put in effect in the mid-20th century in the United States during the early years of the Cold War. The blacklist involved the practice of denying employment to entertainment industry professionals believed to be or to have been Communists or sympathizers. Not just actors, but screenwriters, directors, musicians, and other American entertainment professionals were barred from work by the studios. This was usually done on the basis of their membership in, alleged membership in, or even just sympathy with the Communist Party USA, or on the basis of their refusal to assist Congressional investigations into the party's activities. Even during the period of its strictest enforcement, from the late 1940s through to the late 1950s, the blacklist was rarely made explicit or easily verifiable, as it was the result of numerous individual decisions by the studios and was not the result of official legal action. Nevertheless, it quickly and directly damaged or ended the careers and income of scores of individuals working in the film industry."
